Function of caprooyl tetrapeptide-3 in skin

2018-08-18

Introduction

Caprooyl tetrapeptide-3, an anti-wrinkle peptide, a reaction product of caproic acid and tetrapeptide-3, comprised of four amino acids, is a peptide based on the structure of transforming growth factor (TGF-β), a growth factor that plays an important role in maintaining the extracellular matrix. It is a white crystal and has good solubility in water, which is always be as an active ingredient added into the production process of cosmetic at the final stage. Its molecular structure is shown in Fig 1. Owing to its special and perfect properties of anti-wrinkle and anti-aging, now, it has become a popular cosmetic material and attracts much attention of researchers.

Mechanism

As we all know, peptide signals the skin cells to produce new proteins and penetrates the uppermost layers of the skin and promotes anti-aging effects. Study shows that peptides have been used to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. The loss of collagen in the body results in sagging skin, wrinkles, and fine lines but collagen can keep the skin looking full and healthy.

Caprooyl tetrapeptide-3 performs as the peptides that are already located inside of the skin. In research studies, caprooyl tetrapeptide-3 stimulated the production and synthesis of laminin-5 (connection of epidermis and dermis, supporting the structure), fibronectin (making close integration of cells) and collagen (type VII, keeping the DEJ stable), proteins that are important structural components of the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ), to help achieve optimal skin structure, activate the skin's natural recovery cycle, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Effect and application

Caprooyl tetrapeptide-3, a cosmetic peptide, has been added into the skin care products as an active substance, which has been found to deliver noticeable results after prolonged use. It is functional to reduce the effects of environmental damages including excessive exposure to UV light, exposure to toxins and pollutants, and inflammation. What's more, it can also help to restore and repair the skin, and prevent the effects of aging which often include wrinkles and fine lines. Nowadays, caprooyl tetrapeptide-3 is expected to be one of the most powerful peptides used in anti-aging skin care products.
