Functions | Alpha-conotoxins act on postsynaptic membranes, they bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) and thus inhibit them. This peptide avidly binds AChBP (ACh binding protein) from Bulinus, Lymanea and Aplysia. It potently blocks alpha-3/beta-2 (IC(50)=11 nM). It also inhibits homomeric alpha-7 (IC(50)=27.1 nM) and alpha-6/beta-2 (IC(50)=201 nM) nAChRs. It is inactive on alpha-1/beta-1/delta/epsilon, alpha-2/beta-2, alpha- 3/beta-4 and alpha-4/beta-2 nAChRs. |
